Message from our Board President

Change is at the core of what we do.  We change the way people think about money, focusing on “needs” versus “wants.”  We change the way people think about their abilities, connecting them with job skills training for greater career opportunities.  We change the way people think about the future, with 100% of our children graduating from high school and going on to post-secondary options.

While change is difficult for us all, leaning into it tends to yield higher results than resisting it.  I write to you today to share a change within our RaiseUp Family.

Christina Yaya, Executive Director, has been offered a wonderful opportunity with Rice University and will be leaving us May 22nd.  Her commitment to our organization over the last 7 years has been invaluable and we will forever be grateful for the leadership, enthusiasm, and innovation she brought to our staff, the families we serve, and our community.

With Christina’s departure, I am thrilled to announce our new, Interim Executive Director, Angela Burgess.  Angela has been working closely with RaiseUp Families over the last year and has been a donor and avid champion of our work for the last 5 year.  With over a decade’s worth of experience in wealth management and nearly another decade of experience in non-profit fundraising and management, I am confident that RaiseUp Families is in good hands as we move forward.

Please join me in wishing Christina all the best in her new endeavor and in welcoming Angela.  She will be reaching out to you in the weeks ahead to introduce herself, and I know she would welcome and email or phone call from you as well.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to RaiseUp Families in Houston.

Sincerely,
Kollen C West
